An Important message about Spring 2020 Commencement and Graduation

Dear Graduates,

As you already know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the vital public health recommendations that come with it, Arizona State University will be celebrating with its graduates in a virtual, online 2020 Spring Commencement ceremony. The format may be different, but our enthusiasm for celebrating your achievements has never been greater. Thunderbird’s virtual commencement ceremony will take place on May 11, and will be available to watch on YouTube beginning at 9 am.

Thunderbird has a long and rich history that has been reflected in our graduation ceremonies for decades. This year will be no exception. Our flags ceremony, the oath of honor and other traditions will very much be reflected in this year’s virtual ceremony. We ask that you please take a moment to fill out the following brief survey to let us know if you would like to contribute to this year’s celebrations by submitting a video. Our Branding and Communications team will help by providing video submission guidelines and directions in a follow-up email to those who opt-in. We ask that you please complete this survey by this Friday, April 17, 2020.

Please note that we are also testing new technology that could offer an exciting new way for students to participate in the virtual ceremony using robots. If the technology proves to be reliable, this opportunity would be a unique way to distinguish Thunderbird’s focus of developing leaders for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in a way that allows students to be more active participants in the virtual ceremony.
